Diabties

Diabetes is an ancient disease. It is mentioned in an ancient Egyptian medical book from 1500 BC. It says that some people have sweet urine and feel very thirsty. This is today’s diabetes mellitus. The Greek doctor “Aretaios of Cappadocia” first named it diabetes. Later the Latin word Mellitus was added.

Discovery of Insulin:

Insulin was discovered in 1921. Two scientists discovered it together. Frederick Banting
Charles Best
Both of them were doing research at the University of Toronto in a city in Canada. Later, James Culp and John Macleod played an important role in the discovery of insulin.

And in 1922, it was tested on a patient who survived.
Frederick Banting and John Macleod were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1923 for this achievement.

Let’s know in detail.

Diabetes is one of the most dangerous and common diseases in the world. According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is the seventh largest disease in the world.  About 550 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes. According to an analysis, experts have said that if changes are not made in diet and lifestyle, this number could reach 780 million. Diabetes is a disease in which the amount of glucose in a person’s blood increases. This disease begins in an organ called the pancreas. The pancreas is a small organ inside the abdomen that produces insulin. This insulin enters the sugar in the blood into the body’s cells, where it is converted into energy. When the pancreas produces less insulin or the body’s cells cannot use insulin properly, glucose remains in the blood. This increases the amount of glucose in the blood and diabetes begins. There are two types of it.

Types of diabetes:

Type 1.

In type 1, the body does not produce insulin. This disease begins suddenly and is found in young people and children. Insulin injections are necessary in this type.

Type 2.

In this type, the body produces insulin, but it is not effective for the cells.  It is more common in adults, that is, it is more common in people over 40 years of age. In this type, it progresses slowly. It can be caused by obesity or lack of exercise, or it can also be hereditary.

Disadvantages:

Diabetes is a disease in which if the human body is injured, it does not heal quickly. Because the amount of glucose in the blood increases and the blood thickens, which prevents blood flow and energy from reaching the wound, the wound does not heal quickly. Due to excessive diabetes, the immune system becomes weak and germs easily enter the wound and the wound becomes infected. This causes pus and swelling in the wound. Sometimes the infection becomes severe and spreads, requiring the amputation of the affected part of the body.Diabetes also increases blood pressure and cholesterol in the body.Due to high blood glucose, the blood becomes thick and the blood vessels begin to close. That is why there is a risk of having a heart attack or a stroke.Vision becomes weak due to diabetes.Due to the rapid loss of appetite, the immune system also deteriorates and there is also a fear of kidney failure.
